Three-dimensional mapping of microcircuit correlation structure

چکیده
Great progress has been made toward understanding the properties of single neurons, yet the principles underlying interactions between neurons remain poorly understood. Given that connectivity in the neocortex is locally dense through both horizontal and vertical connections, it is of particular importance to characterize the activity structure of local populations of neurons arranged in three dimensions. However, techniques for simultaneously measuring microcircuit activity are lacking. We developed an in vivo 3D high-speed, random-access two-photon microscope that is capable of simultaneous 3D motion tracking. This allows imaging from hundreds of neurons at several hundred Hz, while monitoring tissue movement. Given that motion will induce common artifacts across the population, accurate motion tracking is absolutely necessary for studying population activity with random-access based imaging methods. We demonstrate the potential of this imaging technique by measuring the correlation structure of large populations of nearby neurons in the mouse visual cortex, and find that the microcircuit correlation structure is stimulus-dependent. Three-dimensional random access multiphoton imaging with concurrent motion tracking provides a novel, powerful method to characterize the microcircuit activity in vivo.

Conical Conformal Antenna Design using the CPM Method for MIMO Systems
Abstract- In this article, the design of conformal antennas has been discussed using the characteristic modes (CM) method. For this purpose, the vector wave function(VWF) has been utilized to achieve a two-dimensional mapping of the conformal antenna. In designing and analyzing of cone-shaped antennas applicable for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems, the most important goal is to achieve ...
متن کاملAn isomorphic mapping hypothesis of the grid representation
We introduce a grid cell microcircuit hypothesis. We propose the 'grid in the world' (evident in grid cell discharges) is generated by a 'grid in the cortex'. This cortical grid is formed by patches of calbindin-positive pyramidal neurons in layer 2 of medial entorhinal cortex (MEC). Our isomorphic mapping hypothesis assumes three types of isomorphism: (i) metric correspondence of neural space ...
متن کاملKinematic Mapping and Forward Kinematic Problem of a 5-DOF (3T2R) Parallel Mechanism with Identical Limb Structures
The main objective of this paper is to study the Euclidean displacement of a 5-DOF parallel mechanism performing three translation and two independent rotations with identical limb structures-recently revealed by performing the type synthesis-in a higher dimensional projective space, rather than relying on classical recipes, such as Cartesian coordinates and Euler angles. In this paper, Study's...
متن کاملQuadtree and Octree Grid Generation
Engineering analysis often involves the accurate numerical solution of boundary value problems in discrete form. Hierarchical quadtree (or octree) grid generation offers an efficient method for the spatial discretisation of arbitrary-shaped two- (or three-) dimensional domains. It consists of recursive algebraic splitting of sub-domains into quadrants (or cubes), leading to an ordered hierarchi...
متن کاملDistributed organization of a brain microcircuit analyzed by three-dimensional modeling: the olfactory bulb
The functional consequences of the laminar organization observed in cortical systems cannot be easily studied using standard experimental techniques, abstract theoretical representations, or dimensionally reduced models built from scratch. To solve this problem we have developed a full implementation of an olfactory bulb microcircuit using realistic three-dimensional (3D) inputs, cell morpholog...
